"sm70- why not Duesenberg?" (sm70-whynotduesenberg)

Just a little bit ago, I came across a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , a car not sold in the United States, right here in Iowa. The explanation for it being here is simple: it has Ontario plates, so someone drove it here from Canadialand, a feat which I would have no desire to replicate in that itsy-bitsy car. But it got me thinking, what other cars does Canada get that aren’t sold in the U.S.? I’m sure that some of you are already salivating at the opportunity to post Beaumonts and Meteors, but for this post, I want to see cars that are from the 2000s and up.
A Mercedes B-Class, commonly mistaken as a Canada-only car. We get it here, but only in electric form, and only like seven of them.

Less than ten years?
Chevy Orlando.
I think the X-Trail might fall into that category? Although it’s a bit older.
Currently, the Mazda 5.
The Kia Rondo.
That’s all I’ve got for now.

Depending on the exact timing of the discontinuation, possibly the 2006 Smart ForTwo CDI?

See, when everyone in the States was like “what? An ILX? An Acura Civic? That’s crazy!”, everyone in Canada was just kind of going “oh, I suppose we’re getting a refresh and a rename, then”.

Wouldn’t really call those “Canada-only”. Are there any actually-Canada-only cars?
I know there’s an island on the northern Atlantic that has a Peugeot (and Citroën?) dealer. Dunno if that counts.

I’m going to turn this on it’s head and post some cars that we DIDN’T get, but Americans did.
Scions made before 2010
Chevy SS
Pontiac GTO
Every Mercury after 1999
Mitsubishi Montero Sport
All of these, we didn’t get. However, the OG xB and Montero Sport are both quite popular in Canada as grey imports. Same with the GTO, and the SS probably will be once they depreciate. Nobody gives two shits about the Mercurys though, and just bought Lincolns and higher trimmed Fords instead.

The second gen X-Trail sold in Canada until 2010. The current one is the same as the Rogue we get here in the US.

GM’s R&D team takes inspiration from the story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish.
Let’s take one car, and serve as many markets as possible.
(Honestly, they’re all guilty of this.)

I more meant cars that are available in Canada but not America. But yeah, back in the 50's-70's there were Canada-only cars.

These cars were the leftovers from the Korean Malaise Era, when both Kia and Hyundai moved forward. Also known as Daewoo.

St. Pierre and Miquelon, technically part of France, so not Canada. But there were a few Big Three rebadge-jobs that might count as “canada only” (Frontenac was one, maybe... Aspen?)

For some odd reason, GM sold the Chevy Corsica in Canada in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s as the “Pontiac Tempest.”

Honestly the B-Class isn’t half bad. I had one as a rental in Europe. I would have been just fine with it as a commute car.
But electric only? Eh, nah. I’ll take the 1.8L turbodiesel 4 with 109 hp.

SE, GT (no model name... the sedan was just the ‘SE’, the hatch was just the ‘GT’), the Sunrunner and the Sunfire (before it the name was used on a rebadged Cavalier).

Probably.
That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of room in them. I could actually fit in the back seats without cutting my legs off. I mean, I wouldn’t really want to be stuck back there, but there’s more room than I expected.
Which begs the question, it there’s that much room in an ORLANDO, why can’t they make some footroom for the rear passengers in a SUBURBAN???
